The 60th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 5, 2011.
The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, designating the National Day of Prayer the first Thursday in May.
The most visible gathering has been held historically at our nation’s Capitol in Washington, D.C. Millions will unite in prayer at thousands of events from coast to coast. Local volunteers and coordinators hold a variety of activities, gatherings and observances, whose purpose is to pray for the well-being of our nation, it's peoples, and leaders.
Mamie Braud is exhibiting her art work of local scenes and historic places during the month of June at the Downtown Art Gallery 630. Her favorite medium is acrylic and the beautiful greens and blues in her landscapes are the signature colors that identify her work as her own.
