Lost A Pet?

There are a few helpful things that we recommend doing immediately to increase your chances of being reunited with your missing pet.



  • File a report now with Petco Love Lost (click banner above)
  • Upload a photo and last known location of your pet to other outlets
  • If your pet has a microchip, call its microchip company and report your pet as lost
    • TPAS offers FREE microchips (including registration) by appointment for pet owners in Terrebonne Parish.
  • Check Animal Shelter(s)
    • Check TPAS during our business hours (Mon-Fri 10:00am – 4:00pm & Sat 10:00-2:00pm) for your pet. Check other surrounding shelters also. Check often!
    • Search the Shelter online for stray/found animals in the shelter.
  • Make flyers and yard signs
    • Make flyers with a good picture of your pet and multiple phone numbers. Post them in your neighborhood and at high traffic locations (vet offices, pet stores, etc.)
    • Place a yard sign w/ a missing pet flyer attached to it in front of your home.

Found a Pet?

    • Bring it to a nearby vet clinic, microchip scanning station, or TPAS during business hours (Mon-Fri 10:00am – 4:00pm & Sat 10:00am-2:00pm) to scan for a microchip.

    • ~60% of lost pets that remain in the vicinity of their home are reunited with their owners versus ~20% once they enter an animal shelter
    • Because we have very limited space at TPAS, we encourage finders to hold the found animal while searching for the owner.
    • If you need assistance with fostering, we can help with some supplies and resources.

Taking ownership of stray/found animals:

Terrebonne Parish Code of Ordinances - Sec. 5-23.

Any domestic animal found by a person other than the parish run Animal Shelter shall be held for fourteen (14) days before claiming ownership and/or adopting/transferring said animal so long as the said animal has not displayed or reported to have displayed any aggression towards humans or other animals and/or has not caused damage nor reported to have caused damage to property. Additionally, reasonable attempts to locate and reunite the found animal with its rightful owner shall be made within the fourteen (14) days, including but not limited to, placing an ad in the local newspaper(s), completing a found report with the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter, and having the found animal scanned for a microchip.
