Public Service Announcements from Our Dept. of Utilities on Upcoming Winter Weather
Winter weather is just around the corner, now is the time to have your central heater checked by a qualified technician. You might also take this opportunity to test your carbon monoxide detector or install one if you haven't already.
Never use the kitchen range as a space heater. This can damage the range and produce carbon monoxide gas.
Natural gas burners that aren't adjusted properly can produce deadly carbon monoxide. You can't see or smell carbon monoxide, but it's a killer. To avoid its danger, always make sure that all natural gas appliances are properly adjusted and vented to the outside so they'll burn safely and efficiently.
Gas Meter Safety Tips:
Do not cover a gas meter with insulation, blankets, or plastic during a freeze.
Gas meters need open air around them.
Natural gas meters are designed to withstand freezing weather.
Covering your gas meter can prevent it from working properly and can create a safety hazard.
