Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government’s Equipment Operator III – Road Grader is responsible for safe and efficient grading of all unpaved streets and road shoulders in Terrebonne Parish.
In this role, the incumbent will be expected to ensures proper roadway shaping, routine equipment care, and supports general maintenance activities within the division to promote safe and accessible parish roadways.
The Senior Equipment Operator will also provide support for emergency response efforts and community events, collaborate effectively with team members, and upholds organizational standards of integrity and professionalism.

- Valid Louisiana driver’s license
- Operate the road grader safely and efficiently to grade all assigned unpaved roads and road shoulders.
- Maintain proper road grade and surface conditions under the direction of the Supervisor or Superintendent.
- Conduct daily inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance of the road grader, and promptly report equipment issues.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on all assigned equipment and complete required inspection forms.
- Monitor road conditions and report hazards, washouts, erosion, or drainage issues to the Supervisor.
- Assist with minor roadway repairs, such as filling potholes, repairing shoulders, or placing aggregate as needed.
- Exercise appropriate care in the operation of all assigned equipment to ensure safety and prevent damage.
- Complete daily work orders, documentation, and required operational records accurately.
- Assist with road and sign maintenance, installation, and related field tasks as needed.
- Load, deliver, unload, and recover barricades for approved private events as required.
- Support storm response and emergency operations, including clearing debris, opening roadways, and assisting with high-water barricades.
- Clean buildings and support general division maintenance activities.
- Attend monthly safety meetings, annual training, and participate in hurricane preparedness activities.
- Follow proper traffic control procedures, including placing cones, signs, and barricades when working on roadways.
- Train other personnel on proper road grader operation when assigned.
- Participate in quarterly One-on-One meetings with Supervisor.
- Complete all required annual trainings—including ethics, harassment prevention, diversity, and cybersecurity—in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed with integrity, professionalism, and in good faith, consistently upholding and protecting the interests, reputation, and assets of the Parish government.
- Perform any additional task as required by Supervisor.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to guide coworkers through safe work practices, equipment use, and task completion while supporting a positive and cooperative team environment.
- Time Management: Able to efficiently prioritize and manage daily assignments efficiently by prioritizing grading tasks, equipment checks, and documentation to meet operational deadlines.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to evaluate road conditions, identifies grading needs, and assesses potential hazards to determine the most effective approach to roadway maintenance.
- Communication Skills: Communicates clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and event personnel to relay field conditions, equipment issues, and task progress.
- Organizational Skills: Maintains accurate documentation, keeps equipment and work areas orderly, and ensures tasks are completed systematically and on schedule.
- Technical Skills: Must be proficient in operating road graders and related heavy equipment, skilled in adjusting blades and slopes to achieve proper road grade, capable of performing routine mechanical checks and minor maintenance, knowledgeable in interpreting basic work orders and grading specifications, and trained in safe equipment operation and work zone safety procedures.
- Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED certification.
- Demonstrated experience grading unpaved roads and road shoulders.
