The annual Arbor Day Apache Tree Giveaway will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2020, at the Terrebonne Parish Main Library, 151 Library Drive, Houma, LA.
This will be the 14th year that Apache Corporation has made this event possible by donating 200 trees to Terrebonne Parish. There is a limit of two container saplings per household to be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. There will also be 800 bare root seedlings provided by the Terrebonne Parish Tree Board available for distribution. Come early to assure your choice of various Louisiana native seedlings and saplings.
The La Terre Master Gardeners and LSU AgCenter will assist each individual resident in choosing the right tree from a selection of native Louisiana species donated through the Apache Corporation Tree Grant Program. They will also provide educational pamphlets that instruct citizens on how to plant and care for their tree of choice. Residents are encouraged to observe their trees and reach out to tree specialists from the local LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension office if they detect anything out of the ordinary.
