JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Vegetation Superintendent. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for tree trimming, tree and brush removal, minor landscaping within Road right-of-way or other locations as assigned.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

01) Inspects all urban and rural streets/roads for overhanging trees on regular basis and initiates actions to remove obstacles from right-of-way or travel zone.
02) Directs all necessary maintenance work to trees, bushes, weeds, vegetation located within public passageways.
03) Recommend the hiring, firing, and training of all tree section personnel.
04) Responsible for maintenance of all tree equipment –i.e. chain saws, climbing tools, cutting tools, etc.
05) Establish preventive maintenance of all tree equipment and keeps maintenance records.
06) Dispatches all work crews to perform scheduled work and completes work order records daily.
07) Reports public complaints, comments and questions concerning the operation of the Tree Maintenance section.
08) Assist in the implementation of safety programs initiated by the Safety Coordinator and/or Superintendent.
09) Recommends the requisition of equipment, materials, and tools necessary for department to maintain all assigned tasks.
10) Responsible for developing registry of all trees under authority of Terrebonne Parish Government.
11) Must be willing to provide technical assistance to other departments when necessary.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

01) Must have ability to supervise work crews.
02) Must have ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral
03) Must have ability to lift 75 lbs.
04) Must be willing to work extra hours.
05) Must be on 24 hour call.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

01) Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
02) Must have experience with operating an aerial lift truck, tree chipper, stump grinder, chain saws and other cutting tools.
03) Must have Arbors License or 5 years experience under supervision of License Arborist.
04) Knowledge of herbicides and landscaping preferred.
