Primary responsibilities of this division are to maintain parish
roads, streets, bridges, and signs, perform grass cutting and tree
trimming. Funding is derived from a ¼ cent parish wide sales tax
with supplemental funding from General Fund. With a work force of
approximately seventy employees, the responsibilities of this
division vary considerably performing the following tasks and
services:
-
Inspection
and maintenance of all parish owned roads, streets,
bridges, traffic control signs, caution lights, and raffic
control signals
-
Perform
bridge opening with twenty-seven bridge tenders and
"on call" for selected bridges
-
Perform
structural analysis of bridges, as required
-
Street Sweeping operation.
-
Compliance with the State Off- System Bridge
Program.
-
Provide
assistance for elections by installing and removal of
ramps and signs at polling locations
-
Setup
and removal of barricades for Christmas & Mardi Gras
parades and other downtown activities
-
Installation,
repair, and removal of parking meter post
-
Painting
street curbing, handicap marking and control stripping
in parish parking lots.

Grading
and shelling of roadways and shoulders, pump station
roads, government owned parking lots, and recreational
areas
-
Oversee fabrication and installation of all
traffic control signs and information signs.

Some of the goals for the division include:
