Keep Terrebonne Beautiful Awarded Healthy Communities and Affiliate Program Grant

Keep Terrebonne Beautiful has again been selected as a recipient of the Healthy Communities Grant and Affiliate Program Grant by Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the state’s premier anti-litter and community improvement organization.

This year’s grants, which total $7,000, will support Keep Terrebonne Beautiful’s mission of empowering the citizens of Terrebonne Parish to take personal responsibility to prevent litter and beautify the parish. Litter thrown along roadways along with lawn debris, pesticides, and fertilizers find their way into local waterways which degrade the lakes and bayous used by the community.

The grant funds will be used to launch a unique awareness campaign to include a short, kid-friendly educational video, an activity book, and community outreach within schools to third graders. Additionally, Keep Terrebonne Beautiful is partnering with the local organizations, The Bayou Regional Arts Council & Jam Up Marketing.

“One of the things we have found after doing cleanups is that the young children are not aware of the things they can do everyday to help keep Terrebonne Parish clean and beautiful,” said Billie Babin, Keep Terrebonne Beautiful’s Executive Director. Keep Terrebonne Beautiful wants to influence positive behavior by providing the children in the parish with information on ways they can help with the litter
problems.
