Public Distribution of Food/Other Items Must be Conducted via Drive-Thru

Parish President Gordon Dove, along with Houma Police Chief Dana Coleman, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter, Sheriff-Elect Tim Soignet, Terrebonne Parish Public Safety Director Steve Ponville, and the Terrebonne Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Earl Eues is requiring all non-governmental organizations who are planning to conduct a public distribution of food or other items to assist citizens of Terrebonne Parish during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) event to please conduct these events as drive-thru events only. The Governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, issued an executive order prohibiting the gathering of 50 or more people in one place. Conducting these events in a similar way as the drive-thru testing pods have been conducted in recent days will assist in preventing the gathering of 50 or more people in one particular place.

The efforts of non-governmental organizations to provide assistance to our citizens during this time is appreciated, but the community responsibility is to do whatever necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

For information or assistance with the logistics of your distribution event, contact Terrebonne Parish Public Safety Director Steve Ponville at (985) 873-6401.
