TPCG & TPSD Announce Books & Badges Safety Awareness Program

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government President Gordon E. Dove and Terrebonne Parish School District Superintendent Phillip Martin, along with the cooperation of the below-listed local agencies, are launching Books & Badges, an initiative to promote law enforcement presence and awareness within Terrebonne Parish schools. Participating agencies include:

  • Houma Police Department - Chief Dana Coleman
  • Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office - Sheriff Jerry Larpenter
  • Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office - Joe Waitz, Jr.
  • Louisiana State Police Troop C - Captain Frank Besson
  • Terrebonne Parish Marshal’s Office - City Marshal Orville Callahan

Law enforcement officers from the above agencies will promote positive interactions amongst themselves, students, parents, teachers, and principals at schools during random hours of the day, as their individual schedules allow, in an effort to improve safety and deter criminal activity.

Officers will first announce their presence to the schools’ principals and staff. Officers will be encouraged to have lunch with the students as one of the many ways to build positive relationships between students and law enforcement.

President Dove and Superintendent Martin would like to thank all of the above agencies for their willingness to participate in this most worthwhile program.
