Upcoming Steering Committee/Hazard Mitigation Plan Meetings Dec. 3 and 10

The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, at the direction of Parish President Gordon E. Dove, and with the support of the Parish Council, is updating the Hazard Mitigation Plan. This will be the fourth Steering Committee meeting.  All meetings are open to the public. A public evening meeting was held in November, and another evening meeting will be held in December to review the updated draft. 

The purpose of the plan update is to identify the risk that remains and pursue preventative measures that will reduce future damages from natural hazards. Activities completed or in process include:

  1. The adoption of the Steering Committee and Plan Process
  2. Meetings with the public for each step of the process
  3. Coordination with other agencies for data and participation
  4. Assess and update the hazards we face. Review activities that have reduced or increased that risk in the past 5 years since the last plan
  5. Assess the problem and the community impact
  6. Set goals and objectives
  7. Review possible activities to meet the goals

In the next meeting on December 3, 2019, the committee will review the objective, projects, or programs that will reduce risk and increase resilience. These projects will be ranked and prioritized based on criteria including feasibility and cost effectiveness. 

On December 10, 2019, the committee will revisit the updates including the maps, risk assessments, and the outcomes of the December 3rd meeting. 

The public is encouraged to attend these meetings. All materials presented, resources, notes of the meetings, and an online comment tool are available on the parish website at A copy of the current Hazard Mitigation Plan and all other materials are also available in print at 8026 Main Street on the second floor for public review.
