Terrebonne Parish Tree Board & Acorns of Hope

The Terrebonne Parish Tree Board and Acorns of Hope are teaming up again in 2009 to provide a funfilled educational event for children and their parents. Children and their parents are invited to attend an hour long program that will educate about why trees truly are our friends and what they can do to protect and nurture these important resources. After the program is completed, parents and children will have a chance to help Acorns of Hope and the Tree Board plant trees on Civic Center property. Acorns of Hope is a tree planting initiative dedicated to restoring South Louisiana's eroding coastline. The project consists of certified arborists and tree advocates from across the country who donate their time and efforts to annually ride bicycles and plant Live Oaks along the coast. The Terrebonne Parish Tree Board’s mission is to preserve and protect the existing healthy trees in Terrebonne Parish that play an important ecological role in controlling soil erosion and storm water runoff and to promote trees as enhancing air quality by reducing air pollution, noise and water pollution. The Board further promotes a better understanding of the value of trees new and old as an important economic and environmental asset to the Parish.
