FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Press Release #02 Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government Office of Emergency Preparedness-Response Hurricane Ida November 9, 2009-13:00 PM Contact Information: Earl Eues 985-873-6357 The Terrebonne Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has continued to monitor the progress of now Tropical Storm Ida as it approaches the northern coastline of the Gulf of Mexico. Parish officials have been meeting to determine if further protective measures will be necessary within the Parish with the present track of the storm. The conference call with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness conducted at 8AM this morning included a briefing from the National Weather Service Office located in Slidell. The National Weather Service is predicting a landfall near the Florida Peninsula. Terrebonne Parish residents can expect 2 to 3 inches of rainfall and tides 2 to 3 feet above normal along the coast of Terrebonne Parish. The Parish has not issued a declaration of emergency and no evacuations have been ordered. All governmental offices are open at this time. All public and private schools are open today and will be in session all day. There have been no reports of any road closures or water on roadways in Terrebonne Parish. The Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District (TLCD) has opened the Bayou Terrebonne and Little Caillou floodgates due to falling tides from Hurricane Ida. The Humble Canal Auxiliary Structure will remain closed and will reopen once the storm passes. Water levels are being continuously monitored and these structures may close again, should conditions deteriorate. Information on floodgates can be obtained by calling the levee district at 985-868-8523. Due to the possibility of flooding in the low-lying areas of the parish, sand and sand bags will be available at the following locations: Montegut Fire Station, main Little Caillou Fire Station, Pointe Aux Chenes Fire Station, Bobtown Bridge Fire Station, and the former location of the fire station in Bayou Dularge near the Falgout Canal Bridge.
