Tree Board to Award Downtown Tree Grants

The Terrebonne Parish Tree Board is proud to announce that it has begun accepting grant applications for its Downtown Business Tree Planting and Tree Preservation Grant - Making Small Spaces Into Green Spaces. All downtown businesses interested in preserving and enhancing their existing trees, as well as planting new trees and additional landscaping are encouraged to apply. “We are excited to continue offering grants for tree preservation and planting in the community,” says Ellen Doskey, Tree Board Secretary. “We experienced tremendous success with our Storm Recovery Grant this past year and we hope to continue making a difference in our urban forest with this exciting opportunity.” “We are hoping to see businesses in the downtown area have as much success with tree planting and preservation as Hassell Wealth Management, the current recipient of the “TREE-mendous Citizen” award, said Doskey. “Hassell’s landscaping will really make a difference in the downtown area and can serve as a model for other businesses that are interested in this grant opportunity.” The Tree Board will match 50% of the project costs, up to $2,000.00. The funds awarded can be used to for the purchasing and planting of new trees or to trim, fertilize or stake existing trees. Tree removal is not included. 60% of the grant must be tree-related, while 40% may be used for general landscaping such as bushes or flower beds. All work must be completed by a licensed arborist or landscaper. For more information and to access the application electronically, please click here for more details. You may also email Jennifer Robinson at jmrobinson@tpcg.org for a copy of the application.
