Wednesday July 01, 2009 10:10 am - 2352 Views

Last night on HTV Martin Folse and several business owners generously offered rewards totaling $ 1,200.00 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the guilty parties stealing batteries from the Terrebonne Parish Pump Stations. The Public Works Department of Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government is asking for community assistance to address a serious problem. Sixty-one (61) batteries have been stolen in the past two months from pump stations all over the parish. Thieves are vandalizing the fences, cutting locks and stealing the batteries. “This is a very serious situation since the pumps are worthless without the batteries” said Gregory Bush, Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government Public Works Director. If we have a serious rain event and the pumps cannot work because the battery is missing, we could have a flooding situation. Gregory Bush and Parish President Michel Claudet are asking that anyone who sees someone parked at a pump station, walking around a pump station, or notice any suspicious behavior at or around a pump station, to call law enforcement immediately; Houma City Police at 985-873-6371 or The Sheriff’s Office at 985-876-2500. This is the list of stolen batteries to date: Lashbrook – 6 batteries stolen on 4/20; Boudreaux Canal-1 battery on 5/09; Industrial Blvd- 6 batteries on 5/24; M&L – 9 batteries on 5/25; Ashland North – 2 batteries on 6/01; Ashland - 3 batteries on 6/01; Concord – 6 batteries on 6/15; M&L – 11 batteries on 6/15; Industrial – 6 batteries on 6/25; Ashland – 3 batteries on 6/25 and M&L – 8 batteries on 6/27. Each battery is worth $ 150.00 each or a total of $ 9,150.00. These thefts are a serious situation to each of us in this parish, not only monetary, but because of the seriousness of the situation when these pumps cannot work. Your cooperation and assistance in helping to apprehend these thieves and to help protect your home from flooding is greatly appreciated.
