ASFCP Hosts 5th Annual Water Safety/Health Initiative Event on June 2 from 9a to 5p

Aqua Safety First Community Program's annual event will teach CPR, First Aid and swimming safety to local families. This event is backed by Healthy Blue, Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, Center for Disease Control, the National Black Nurses Association, McNeese State University, LSU Agricultural Center, Carrot Patch Health Food Store, and South Louisiana Seed Company. It also features the John Bell Edward's healthy eating initiative along with Whole Child, Whole School and Whole Community, as well as Michelle Obama's gardening program. There will be a health fair on site where patrons can access glucose and blood pressure readings, breast cancer education, nutrition, and lifestyle presentations.

Aqua Safety First Community Program was founded by Woodrow Parker, a Morgan City, LA, native, who saw the need to make the community and surrounding areas aware of the importance of water safety. As stated by Mr. Parker: "Our goal is to ensure that every child has adequate water safety awareness and survival skill training in Louisiana." ASFCP is in its ninth year of operation and is housed in five parishes. Children and their parents can learn basic water skills like floating, breathing exercises and poolside rules at this event. Other event sponsors include Hooters, Starbucks, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Red Cross of New Orleans, and G&J Distributors of Morgan City.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Dumas Auditorium Pool on 301 West Tunnel Blvd Houma, LA from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The public is invited to enjoy fun jumps, food, and the sounds of DJ Juice.
