Parishes intending to create a Local Coastal Zone Management Program with grant funding from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration first send a letter of intent approved by the parish Police Jury or Council. Parishes then go through the process for developing a local program which consists of a number of tasks leading to development of a local program document which includes necessary components pertaining to an up-to-date characterization of coastal resource management issues in the parish.
Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government's Coastal Zone Management Program Documents were finalized in April 2000 under the Department of Planning & Economic Development. The Coastal Zone Management Office was later moved to the Office of Coastal Restoration and Preservation, which was created in 2005.
