Southeast Louisiana Hurricane Preparedness Expo

Description: PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FUTURE STORMS S E L A HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS EXPO Wednesday, June 2, 2010 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. • Pontchartrain Center in Kenner 4545 Williams Blvd. Admission: Non-perishable food items or a donation to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Exhibits will include information on generators, storm shutters and storm-protection devices. Representatives from the parishes of Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard, St. Charles and St. Tammany, the Army Corps of Engineers and the State of Louisiana will be available to discuss issues of drainage, levees, flood protection and coastal erosion. Entergy will provide safety demonstrations and discuss storm preparedness. Home-improvement businesses will demonstrate proper preparation of your home or business before a storm. Medical information supplied by local hospitals on nutrition tips/needs: water, food, etc., and threats to health and life posed by a storm and its aftermath. Taking It To The Streets - City Missions
Location: Victory of Houma, 5328 West Main Street, Houma, LA.

Description: Taking It To The Streets is our City Missions, it's a way for us to give back to the community that we love so much. Day One will consist of the following: Water Bottle Outreach - We will be on the corner of MLK and Enterprise by McDonald's handing out water. Who doesn't want FREE water? It's already hot outside! As the traffic light stops on coming traffic we just simply offer the people in their cars free water as an act of kindness, no strings attached. Nursing Home - We will be visiting different nursing homes throughout our entire area just to bring live into them. Widow Outreach - We will be helping out the widows of the area. The ladies will be connecting and cleaning on the inside, while the men will be cutting grass, cutting trees, whatever needs to happen. Car Wash - We will be having a FREE car wash (no donations) on the eastside at South Louisiana Bank. Starting roughly around 1pm. Adopt a Bridge - We are adopting the Jody Street Bridge right here by the church. We will be painting it and putting up landscaping. We want to do our part in keeping this amazing city clean!

HAVEN - We will be connecting with the Haven, just supplying them with needs and connecting, building relationships with these ladies. FIRE DEPARTMENT - This is probably the one department that gets overlooked the most out of them all. We just want to show our firemen that we see and appreciate everything they do. We will be making gift baskets to bring to them to show them our appreciation.

Description: The Mr. Habitat Contest features men from the local community who compete for the prestigious title of Mr. Habitat. It is loosely based as a reverse beauty pageant as men compete in different events, such children’s games to Habitat trivia while women judge. It is a night of fun and enjoyment as items are auctioned both silent and live and the contestants, and their actions, have everyone leaving with a smile, especially knowing that all proceeds benefit such a worthy cause.
