Based on a belief in graduated sanctions, the community service work program provides juvenile offenders with a consequence other than detention. Juveniles are ordered to perform community service work for one of two reasons: as part of their disposition or as a consequence for minor probation violations.
The Juvenile Department has two part-time community service work supervisors. Community service work is performed on weekends from 7:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Adjustments to the schedule may occur due to holidays, vacations or illnesses.
City Court of Houma also accepts community service work performed at nonprofit organizations that are approved by the Clerk/Court Administrator or the Judge. Questions regarding community service work should be directed to the Clerk/Court Administrator at 868-4232, ext. 201.
